Reflections from our February 2023 trip to Alabama

on Thu, 2023-03-23 09:49

The four of us traveled to Montogmery and Selma and honored Stacia Robinson's appointment to the cabinet level postion of Director, Governor's Office Minority Affairs & Economic Development. My three guests shared their reflections.

I left Montgomery, Alabama on Sunday, February 26th thinking…

Black people were given symbolic rights with the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments, but  no ability to protect their rights in America's legal or government systems.

So looking forward to this, our 5th trip to Montgomery with three Principle Quest women. Creating meaningful change may be slow, but Stacia Fisher Robinson speeds up the hands of time! Healing begins when we learn the history that I was never taught in school growing up in the 1950's Jim Crow era.

When three separate groups of women in the Principle Quest community traveled to Alabama last year, we were so warmly welcomed and learned so much. Now we are holding our friends in Montgomery in our thoughts as COVID19 wreaks havoc. We in New York can relate deeply, and wish you courage and good health.

Reflections from November Trip to Alabama

A third group of women traveled with me in November to visit Selma and Montgomery. Their personal reflections are both sobering and inspiring. Our photo above on the last evening in Montgomery includes our guests at dinner, each of whom is a leader and a change agent.
