Who is responsible for teaching 'white' people about racism? Actually, we are, and people of color have lived inside this nightmare for far too long. I invite you to take a look at this list of resources. I would add the PBS series done by Henry Louis Gates, Jr. whose book, Stony The Road, traces the tragic history of Reconstruction, including The Great Betrayal, and subsequent creation by the media of a white supremacy narrative still permanently woven into every aspect of our society today. The consequences threaten every aspect of our communities and hope for the future.

Start with your own preference – whether a movie, book, YouTube or podcast, but please begin. There is so much history we never learned. I believe the way we move forward from here depends on all of us becoming better informed of 'what is' rather than accepting the polarizing political discourse or simplistic solutions.  We cannot beat racism through twitter or soundbites. Let's get to work on learning what we never knew...and then take action to change the staus quo.
